Ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1/2 sliced onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 green or black whole cardamom (optional)
- 1 bay leaf (optional)
- 2 cups water
Directions:

Wash rice and soak in 2 cups water for 15-20 minutes.

Sauté cumin seeds, green or black cardamom and bay leaf .

Stir it for a few seconds and add sliced onion. Keep stirring till it starts getting golden brown .

Then add soaked rice with same water

Bring to a boil then turn heat to medium and cover rice

Let rice cook, covered, until all the water is gone.

Check and see a grain of rice if it’s tender enough. If it is, turn stove off and let sit an additional few minutes. If not, add a little more water and continue to cook until that water is fully absorbed.
